Yudo is a Korean
Martial Art based on the Japanese Sport
of Judo.

During the Japanese
occupation of Korea, the study of Judo was
mandatory in
all schools, and after their liberation, the Koreans
formed the CJA (Choson Judo Association) in October
1945. Then in 1950, the CJA was split into:
The ROKYA
(Republic of Korea Yudo Association)
for the practice of
Traditional Military (Martial) Arts.
The KJA (Korea
Judo Association)
for the practice of
Sport Judo in the Olympic Games.
Part of the Cheongye
Kwan's core curriculum involves classes on Yudo, which is grappling - both standing and on the
ground.
For the senior students this also incorporates
the application of strangulation techniques and the
manipulation of joint locking manoeuvres.
As well as
Yudo, we incorporate Combative Grappling,
which we have derived
and formed from Yudo.

The Cheongye
Kwan founder Master Barry Cook is very good friends with
Master John Machado, a Brazilian Ju-Jitsu former
National and World champion, as well as
a 2 time Pan American Sambo champion.
Master
Machado is the youngest of the five Machado brothers: Carlos, Jean-Jacques, Rigan, and
Roger. He first
began his training over 30 years ago with his cousins
the Gracies.
To add to
this, he is also a Hollywood actor, and has had numerous
movie and television roles such as: Redbelt
(2008), Kickboxer 4 (1994), Under Siege
2 (1991) and Walker Texas Ranger with Master Chuck
Norris.
